About Us

Our Mission is to unite diverse communities through the promotion of multilingual and multicultural understanding through educational and cultural exchange.

Multilingual and Multicultural Harmony (MMH) is a non-government multiethnic organization comprised of dedicated, professionals based in Ohrid, Macedonia. MMH was founded during 1999 for the purpose of promoting educational opportunities, women’s representation within the society and organizing projects beneficial to all.  The NGO was registered on 2/27/2002 under Law 7/2002 article 7/2 of Registration of Non profit organizations observed by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

MMH fosters interaction across the cultural boundaries that define identities, influence participation and shape encounters to promote transformative interethnic and intercultural engagement.  Such boundaries include, but are not limited to, race, ethnicity, area of origin, gender, religion, socioeconomic status, educational level, age, and varying ability and language.

Projects

Bridging global and domestic diversity issues, MMH highlights the role of educational and cultural exchange in the economic development of our country by focusing on three central topics:

  1. Women’s Empowerment Activities
  2. Cultural and Educational Exchanges
  3. Access to information technology

Below are some of our projects:

  • Educational exchange with University of West Florida
  • “Diversity Under Unity” workshop with professor Godfrey Franklin from UWF
  • “Peace and Art” workshop for the students in the elementary school St.Kliment with Iranian artist Parvin Haram.
FEMNET

FEMNET is a partnership between NGO’s located in Macedonia, Greece & Albania.  The purpose of the project is to pool information for common distribution, facilitate interaction between, promote uniform standards and foster mutually beneficial partnerships between private schools and other non-governmental educational organizations.

Women in Tourism

A seminar for Women in tourism with Dr. Stan McGahey, International Tourism Professor & Consultant and 1999/2000 Fulbright scholar at the University of Tourism in Ohrid. The tourism industry is one of the largest employers of women in the Ohrid/Prespa region and a major factor in the economic development strategy for Macedonia. Training in the new approaches to promoting tourism is sorely needed if Macedonia is to be competitive in the global market. The seminar, “Prespa/Ohrid Women in Tourism”, is a joint effort of the Macedonian NGO Multilingual and Multicultural Harmony (MMH), the Albanian NGO PA KUFIJ, and the Ohrid Tourist Bureau. This training contributes toward the ongoing programs for cross border economic empowerment of women.

The Pioneer 6 arrived in the Lake Ohrid Region of Macedonia on 31 May 2013 not knowing the language, landscape, or locals.  As the Pioneer 6 (the first group of six students from Point Park University in Pittsburgh PA), they set out to get to know the unknown.  After hundreds of new photographs, contacts, and stories, they captured the essence of the Lake Ohrid Region.

Their goal is to bring tourists from America to a region with so much to offer.  With this goal in mind, they created and fine- tuned a message to reach the American Baby Boomers- those born from 1946 to 1964.  With an Integrated Marketing Communications (IMC) plan, they presented a tourism campaign to the Lake Ohrid Region using components of advertising, direct marketing, public relations, and more centered on a unifying message- “From the unknown to the unforgettable.”

On the evening of 16 July 2013 Point Park University’s Pioneer 6, in collaboration with and support of Multilingual & Multicultural Harmony of Ohrid Macedonia, presented their Integrated Marketing Communications plan to approximately 200 key figure- heads, business owners, and people of the Lake Ohrid Region.  With the support of the region, the Pioneer 6 successfully unveiled the “Unknown/ Unforgettable” campaign with a presentation, dinner, and discussion.
